A Lower map (also known as "lowers") is a set of maps that all new players have to go through to enter the higher level maps such as an Upper map. Depending on your chosen company, a lower map could be one of the three X-1 areas. 1-1 is MMO's owned base map, 2-1 is EIC's owned base map, and 3-1 is VRU's owned base map.
After passing through the X-1 maps, you will find the next set of lower maps which are X-2 (1-2, 2-2, 3-2). Then follows the slightly harder X-3 maps (1-3, 2-3, 3-3) which bring a new Boss type alien. The last lower map area are the X-4 maps (1-4, 2-4, 3-4) which each have a portal that leads to an enemy companies map or a Battle map. X-4 also has a mothership alien called the Sibelon. X-4 usually has a Team Deathmatch portal when the event has begun.
